World Series Betting in Colorado

After Prop DD was passed late in 2019, it became possible to bet on the World Series in Colorado.

Prop DD has been integral to changing the way Coloradans and visitors to Colorado gamble. Sports betting used to be illegal in Colorado, and other types of gambling remain severely restricted.

However, baseball betting is now legal throughout Colorado, and that includes betting on the World Series.

Other forms of betting in Colorado remain unchanged by the law.

Sports betting in Colorado, thanks to specific language in the law itself, actually has no limit to how high you can bet. Therefore, you can bet as much or as little as you like on any sporting event (as long as the casino or online sportsbook you’re betting at has no limit).

The date set for full legalization of all sports betting in Colorado is May 1 of 2020. This basically means that, even though sports betting is technically legal before that date, it won’t actually be possible to bet on sporting events until betting apps and casinos are able to get the proper licenses to do so.

Thankfully, the World Series isn’t scheduled to begin until well into October, so baseball betting fans will have plenty of time to wait for the bureaucrats to work out the kinks in the system so that they can get their bets in in time.

Can I bet as much as I want on a sporting event?

Yes, bets are not limited thanks to how Prop DD was written. Prop DD did not set a limit on how large sports bets can be, which is great for sports gamblers, but that doesn’t mean individual casinos and apps aren’t going to set restrictions of their own.

Can I bet on the World Series using my credit card?

This is a question that hasn’t been answered yet, at least not by Prop DD and the actual text of the proposition. So in terms of the legality of making a bet using a credit card, that probably won’t be tested until the first online sportsbooks open in May of 2020.

You can definitely use a credit card to make sports bets in other online casinos in other states, so there is a precedent that might be followed there. However, that doesn’t mean Colorado is going to follow suit, so if you’re planning on earning miles by using your credit card for all your sports gambling, you might want to wait before making any sports bets in Colorado.

Here’s something else to think about: If you don’t have cash on hand to make a bet that you’re willing to lose, you might not want to make a bet on a credit card. After all, you are not only going to owe the money you wagered, you’re also going to owe interest on the purchases made on the card itself, interest that can get above 15% or even 25%.

Do I have to live in Colorado or have a house in Colorado to bet on the World Series?

No — you can bet on the World Series regardless of your residency or ownership of property in the state of Colorado.

All you need to do is be within state lines to make your bet and collect your winnings. Because there are several different ways you can make a bet on a sporting event in Colorado, you actually have a variety of options for how you can approach this.

How do I bet on the World Series?

You can bet at any of the casinos in Colorado, or you can make your bets through online sportsbooks and Colorado betting apps on your device of choice.

If you decide to go to one of the casinos available to you in the three cities where gambling is legal in Colorado, you’ll have to go to either Central City, Black Hawk or Cripple Creek and find a casino that has a sportsbook.

The other option is to make a bet on the many sports betting apps that have been rolled out since the passage of Prop DD. You can access these apps on your device of choice, including your smartphone, a tablet, or a desktop or laptop computer.

Betting on an app is a great option if you don’t want to spend the time or money making the trip to the three cities mentioned above. It’s also a great option if you live in another state and just want to make a short trip across the border.

What kind of bets can I make on the World Series?

Remember that the types of bets you’ll actually be able to make in Colorado are going to be limited by the individual casino or sports betting app that you choose to use.

Here are some of the most popular types of bets that you’ll find for the World Series:

  • Live betting
  • Money line bets
  • Run line bets
  • Series bets
  • Prop betting
  • Over/unders
  • Futures bets

Live betting

Live betting is absolutely an option for the World Series, but the problem is that live betting is still fairly new for MLB. As a result, your options just aren’t going to be as good as for other sports, like basketball or football.

Live betting is great for when you missed making the bets you wanted to make before each game started. It’s also great if you like betting as the games progress.

The other great benefit of live betting is that instead of just making a handful of bets before the big game and then sitting back and watching for a few hours, you can actually make all kinds of bets that evolve as the game itself evolves.

This makes each game more suspenseful and interesting, allowing you to make new bets as the odds change.

Prop betting

If betting on the main outcome of the series or of each game isn’t enough for you, then prop betting is the way to go.

With prop betting, you can bet on a wide variety of random possibilities during the series, some of which are possible to predict if you’ve paid close attention to each team throughout the regular season and postseason.

Many sports bettors actually don’t make any bets throughout the year and save their money for the World Series. So it’s not uncommon for these types of gamblers to make many different types of bets to try to win as much as possible during the World Series.

Run line bets

The is pretty straightforward — you pick the winner for each game and bet on how many runs they’re going to win by or their opponent will lose by, similar to a spread in football, except the spread is always 1.5 runs.

This is another very common betting option for the World Series. Often you’ll be able to bet on the run total for the game or the run total for each team, but it really depends on the sportsbook that you’re betting through.

This doesn’t just include the World Series but includes all playoff series, although, of course, this can vary from one sportsbook to the next.

Money line

Money line bets are almost certainly going to be available to any bettors in Colorado who are betting on the World Series. This is an extremely common type of bet and is actually really great because of the fact that it’s not complicated — you just choose which team you think is going to win the game and get paid if it does.

Obviously there’s going to be a difference in how much you get paid based on the odds for each team to win, but at least in these cases you don’t have to worry about spreads.

Futures bets are generally only allowed to be made at the beginning of the season. Therefore, by the time the 2020 season is in full swing and sports betting is made legal (May of 2020), only a few online sportsbooks or casinos are going to offer them.

However, the way they work is simple — you bet on something happening in the future, whether that be which teams make the World Series or how many wins a team might have.

These are simple bets on the total score of an entire game or the total score of each team. You usually bet on whether the totals will be over or under a certain amount.

How can I start betting on the World Series?

If you’re not 21 or older (the legal gambling age in Colorado) and you’re not physically within the state lines of Colorado, then you can’t bet on the World Series. So make sure that those two conditions are met first.

Then, all you have to do is either visit any of the land-based casinos in the three cities where gambling is legal in Colorado, or you can download your sports betting app of choice to your preferred smart device.

You also have to have your bank information and/or credit card information and a photo ID.
