Bronco Billy’s Casino & Hotel sportsbook

In September 2019, Bronco Billy’s Casino & Hotel owner Full House Resorts entered into a sports betting services agreement with US horse racing and casino giant Churchill Downs, contingent upon sports betting legislation passing in Colorado.

Colorado voters approved the legislation in November 2019.

The agreement also allows Churchill Downs to offer retail and online sports wagering under the BetAmerica brand in Colorado utilizing Full House Resorts’ license for Bronco Billy’s Casino & Hotel in Cripple Creek.

A retail BetAmerica Sportsbook was set to open at Bronco Billy’s Casino & Hotel and a BetAmerica online and mobile sportsbook made available across the state in 2020 after the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment lifts its casino shutdown order.

Bronco Billy’s Casino & Hotel’s other master licenses for sports betting are being utilized by partnerships with UK betting exchange operator Smarkets and Las Vegas-based casino operator Wynn Resorts for online and mobile sports betting products.

Bronco Billy’s online gambling partnerships

Thanks to agreements with UK sportsbook operator Smarkets, Las Vegas casino company Wynn Resorts and US horse racing and casino giant Churchill Downs, Bronco Billy’s is set to be a leader in Colorado online and mobile sports betting.

This is the only form of online gambling that is currently legal in Colorado. However, Bronco Billy’s Casino & Hotel will quite likely enter into another agreement with Churchill Downs to offer further BetAmerica-branded online gambling products in the event online casinos or online poker also become legal in Colorado.

Bronco Billy’s Casino & Hotel history

Bronco Billy’s Casino & Hotel opened in October 1991 during the first week of legal gaming in Cripple Creek.

It started out as a single building with fewer than 100 slots and has grown into a three-casino complex with 830 slots, 13 table games, five restaurants and two small boutique hotels.

Bronco Billy’s Casino & Hotel has gone through as many as eight expansions since it first opened and now occupies almost an entire city block.

Plus, in 2020 owner Full House Resorts was in the midst of taking the property through its most ambitious expansion yet, performing a $120 million renovation that will include a new luxury 150-room hotel tower, spa, parking garage, convention and entertainment center, and high-end restaurant integrated with the existing casino complex.

Full House bought the property in 2015 for $30 million, soon after it swallowed up Cripple Creek’s Gold Rush Casino. That added approximately 15% more slot machines, 14 guest rooms to the existing 10, 2.3 acres of additional surface parking, and it extended the Bronco Billy’s footprint to the street corner.

Full House Resorts also acquired ownership rights to portions of the rest of the block, including significant land and structures connected to the property, and is now expanding into this space.

Along with the Brass Ass Casino, Bronco Billy’s is one of just two casinos still operating after launching during the first week of gaming in Cripple Creek.

In 2019, before Colorado voters ratified the state’s sports betting legislation, Bronco Billy’s owner Full House Resorts entered into Colorado sports betting agreements with the following operators: Wynn Resorts, Smarkets and Churchill Downs.

The Wynn Resorts and Smarkets deals will see online and mobile sports betting products launch under Bronco Billy’s licenses. Churchill Downs plans to launch retail and online sports betting under its BetAmerica brand, including a retail BetAmerica Sportsbook at Bronco Billy’s Casino & Hotel.
